Purani Dilli Restaurant

Purani Dilli Restaurant

(Zakir Nagar, Jamia Nagar, Okhla)

Purani Dilli - Don't go by the name, this restaurant is not located in Purani Dilli but situated in the hustle and bustle of Zakir Nagar, just behind the Jamia Millia Islamia University. It is the favourite hangout place for people from all walks of life who are an avid non vegetarian.

As you enter the place you are welcomed by a serene and spacious ambience, a delightful culmination of some historical portraits depicting the different land marks of Old Delhi. Sitting in any table you have a wonderful view of the restaurant.

Ambiance: 4/5

A family restaurant I would say. Pretty old school, this restaurant is very simple and not anything flashy. Just some tables and chairs with waiters standing at the corner chatting with one another. I feel that places serving authentic Mughlai food should be like this and not flamboyant. Only at places like these you get to enjoy your food truly, because you don't get conscious here while eating your food with your hands and not with Spoons and Forks.

Service: 3/5

The guys here are polite and pretty swift. Nothing much to brag about though.

Food: 5/5

This tiny outlet in the midst of Zakir Nagar beats most of the restaurant when it comes to serving authentic Mughlai Food. It is truly a hidden gem when it comes to serving lip smacking, finger licking food.

The menu offers a wide variety of mouth-watering starters. I had the Chicken Tikka Special accompanied by buttery sausage while my friend tried the fried chicken with coriander sausage. They were exquisite.

The main course here consists of just 6 dishes, I mean a restaurant must be very confident of its food if it is serving only 'six' dishes.
The dishes PD serves are Chicken Biryani, Chicken Achari, Chicken Korma, Chicken Changezi, Nihari Mutton and Chicken Tandoori.
But just as stated in an English proverb 'Good things come in small packages', these guys know what they are doing and they serve the most delicious 6 dishes there are in whole of Delhi-NCR. Be it Chicken Changezi, Chicken Tandoori or Nihari Mutton.
These guys deserve full marks on the food perspective. I bet you will end up licking your fingers by the time you finish.

Value for Money: 4/5

Not expensive at all. You will end up tasting the best non-vegetarian food in Delhi-NCR without burning a hole in your pocket.

Damage Done: 400-500 for two people.

Overall Rating: 4/5

(Recommendation)

Despite the tiny outlet, I had a pleasant dining experience with food of the most exquisite flavours. For this reason I highly recommend going to the Purani Dilli Restaurant.
